What Is Co-payment?
You Pay a Small Share — the Insurer Covers the Rest
Co-payment (or co-pay) means that when you make a medical claim, you and the insurance company share the cost of the bill. Under our Allianz medical card plans, you can choose to co-pay either 15% or 5% of each hospitalisation bill — the insurer covers the remaining 85% or 95%.
In exchange for taking on this small portion of the bill, your monthly premium is lower. If you make no claims that year, you also earn a No Claim Discount (NCD) that reduces your premium at renewal.
How It Works
Step by Step
You are admitted to a panel hospital and your medical card is used for a cashless admission.
At discharge, you pay your co-payment percentage (e.g. 15% of the total bill).
The insurer settles the remaining 85% directly with the hospital.
If you made no claims during the policy year, your NCD is applied at renewal, lowering your next premium.
Plan Comparison
Co-payment vs Standard Plan
| Plan Type | Monthly Premium | NCD | Your Payment at Discharge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Co-payment 15% | Lower | Applies | 15% of the bill |
| Co-payment 5% | Slightly higher than 15% | Applies | 5% of the bill |
| Standard (no co-pay) | Highest | None | RM 0 — fully cashless |
Who Is This Best For?
The Co-payment Plan Suits You If...
- You want to keep monthly premiums low and are comfortable paying a small, predictable portion of any medical bill.
- You are generally healthy and do not expect to make frequent claims — the NCD rewards claim-free years.
- You want full hospitalisation coverage but are looking to reduce your ongoing insurance commitment.
